While reading a blog of another individual who received a cochlear implant, I ran across this link...this is a live video taken this past summer at a Tampa Hospital in Florida, of a Cochlear Implant surgery. I just watched the hour long procedure as it was very well explained by the doctors performing it. There were cartoon diagrams next to the video of the live surgery that explained exactly what they were doing each step of the way. They also answered questions from people who were watching the surgery happen online as they e-mailed their questions straight to the operating room! (That was a little strange as I wanted to make sure they were concentrating on the surgery every time they answered a question!!!)

WARNING: If you ever watch the channel on TV that shows live operations and get through it okay, this video would be interesting for you to watch, if you want to see what Cole will go through (times 2, as both his ears will be implanted) next Thursday morning. But I am warning anyone who gets faint at the sight of blood...this may NOT be for you. John could not watch the whole thing...remember, he almost fainted during Cole's birth too! Although it was difficult to watch at times thinking that this will be happening to MY son next week, the miracle of hearing that this surgery produces kept me captivated (though a little weak in the knees!) And with that warning, it is up to you to decide if you're up for watching this miraculous surgery take place!

Deciding to have an elective surgery can (at times) seem as easy as ordering food at a restaurant...you order it, and later it is delivered to you. You don't go back to the kitchen and watch the chef make your food, you're just thankful for the outcome! As we've decided to have Cole undergo bilateral implantation, it was an easy decision for us since we understand that it will give him the best chance possible of learning to listen and speak. Watching this video has reminded me of how important it is that we are praying for the Lord to give Dr. Novak wisdom, a steady hand and a clear head when he performs Cole's surgery. I'm thankful for his training and experience that he brings into the operating room with him next week but it is the hand of a powerful God that I trust more. Lord, we praise you for your strength and are thankful to have security in YOU!!! We place our boy into YOUR hands as you move through Dr. Novak and his nurses next Thursday....

If you choose to watch this surgery, please remember that it is both graphic and miraculous!

I am watching this video now and can only say "Praise God & AMEN!" It is an amazing gift of technology being used so effectively and compassionately! I am so excited for Cole and what this will mean for his life. God Bless you all. We will be praying for you on Thursday!
P.S. The word verification that this blog requires to send you this note that I need to insert is "blesso". Can you believe that? I think it means bless your entire circle of family!@
