Many of you have asked how Cole is doing in these days following his cochlear implant surgery, so I wanted to give you a quick update on our boy...He's doing great! I included this picture so you can see one of the incisions, though I hope this isn't too graphic! I tried to take it far enough away so it wasn't too much to share with you! The other side looks the same and gives you an idea of what Cole is recovering from. The stitches are inside while the incision site is covered with a glue that eventually washes off, but for now is still there protecting his incisions.
The night following surgery we removed the bandages at 4am since they kept sliding down over his eyes and waking him up. He slept much better after that! We were a bit nervous for what we would see under the bandages. We unwrapped his head and there wasn't anything we needed to clean up right away. He seemed happy to be rid of them and had a wonderful rest of the night sleep.
Waking up the next morning we gave him a bath, was even able to wash his hair and he was on his way back to "normal." He did have some pain medication to sleep through the night, (though now we're thinking it was just the bandage keeping him awake.) Once he woke up in the morning and since then he hasn't needed anything...it's amazing how quickly little ones bounce back!
Since then he's had many baths, is climbing the walls and everything else again and playing as normal! We're so thankful for what seems to be a smooth recovery so far. We did call the doctor yesterday to see if we should be concerned about some swelling we noticed on the left side of his neck under his ear since this was not one of the symptoms we were told to look out for as part of the normal healing process. Without fever, pain or redness it seems to be fine for now though we will keep our eyes on it for any changes. Please pray this won't develop into a problem of any kind.
We'll keep you posted on any changes that arise but in the meantime praise the Lord for a smooth surgery day and recovery so far! We're counting down the day until activation day on January 2nd!
