This is our first attempt to put a video up on our blog! What a worthy event to enter our blog into the world of video :) John worked very hard to capture the moment for us to remember for the rest of our lives...
Just so you understand better what is going on in the video I want to explain to you what is happening. Cole is sitting in a little high chair and playing with Leann, one of the audiologists from the ECHO program. She is there to focus his attention forward so that we can clearly see his response to the beeps and sounds around him as his implants are activated. Jean, the audiologist we've been working with since the first hearing test, is off screen with the programming computer, making adjustments as she notes his various reactions. We cannot hear the beeps he hears. Jean sends them directly from the computer to his implants, one at a time.
Ryder is playing in the background on the floor with the toys and games they have there. My mom and John take turns playing with Ryder during the 2 and a half hours it took to "map" both implants. I am sitting in a chair on the right of the screen...you can see my VERY pregnant belly sneaking on screen during most of the video as Cora wants her presence to be known on this momentous day for her brother!
As I said before, the appointment lasted about 3 hours total, 2 and a half of those hours actively mapping Cole as he sat in the chair. Mapping began with him hearing beeps, and then ended with his microphones being turned on so he could hear the sounds and voices around him...we chose the most visable reactions he had through the process to show you. Our boy stayed true to his personality and was calm, cool and collected through it all. Some kids cry, others smile and Cole took it all in stride. As you'll see he showed awareness of his newly gained sence, and has been adding new reactions ever since...he's taking us on the most incredible journey we've ever been on...we're thankful for video that allows you to join us!!! Fantastic video! You guys did a great job of showing us awesome parts of your big day!
