Our little "golden boy" had his golden birthday this year!
Though I've been a little behind on blogging lately since we're in the middle of our transition back to California, I had to post a recap of the special moments we had celebrating our boy in the midst of our move.
First, he got to celebrate at school with his friends and teachers and made a special request for chocolate chip cookies from Mama for the event :) I had to make sure I set aside the cookie sheets while packing up the kitchen so I could make Cole's favorite dessert for his friends :) He loves ANYTHING chocolate!
Then Cole chose to play "Duck, Duck, Goose!"
He wanted to end the day with some extra play time outside :)
A few days before we moved, we also got a chance to have a little party at the park with some friends from school and church :) Cole was SO excited to get so many fun presents, many of which we took in the car with us on our long trip to California! He has such thoughtful friends!
SO thankful for our Illinois community...

Cole's actually birthday is also the birthday of our country :) So as tradition will always go, we went to see the fireworks...this time, his birthday was also the day before we moved, so our friends took the kids for most of the day while John and I finished packing up, then we met up with them for dinner and fireworks that night...Here we are on our way to see them!
Every year, we'll see fireworks on my boy's birthday...
Dear Cole,
The same day we thank God for the freedom we enjoy in our country, our family also praises God through the whole show for the gift God's given us in getting to have you in our family. You remind us of when it means to truly be free. God says that regardless of what country we live in, free or not, Jesus died so that every person who has breath can experience what it means to be TRULY free.
Free from guilt,
free from shame,
free from any need we feel to be like those around us,
free from DEATH!
Instead...when we decide to live our life with Jesus,
we are free to experience peace
free to follow Christ in our everyday moments which brings us the most genuine freedom we could ever feel!
In the beautifully unique way God has made you, Cole...we are reminded that even a physical disability doesn't mean you have to live in bondage, living a life thinking of what you cannot do. The world tells us that the most privileged people are those who have the most abilities. God tells us that we can do ALL things through Christ who gives us strength. Every word you speak and sound you hear and respond to reminds me that this is true. We serve an amazing God...One who made you and One whom I praise everyday for choosing me to be your Mom, and our family to be your home. We know HIM more because you are here.
Happy "golden" birthday, sweet one.
I love you.
Love, Mommy
