This Friday I want to tell you about a Family Tradition we look forward to every year...

Every New Year, since I was 14 years old, my family has gone to Hume Lake Christian Camps.  We've gotten away from all that is "normal" in our world, and brought in the New Year...together.

Since John and I got married, and now have a few kids to call our own...we've made it our tradition as well...

It's so good to get away from all that is normal...

and just BE together...
To give God what is already His to begin with...our time.
without any distractions from our "normal" worlds...
We get to start out the year the way I LOVE to...just us...just His.
It's got me thinking lately...how can we make space in our "normal days" to be just us...just for Him.  He's stirring in our hearts lately, some pretty exciting things...I'll fill you in soon on all of that, but for now I leave you with this final thought from the speaker we heard while at Hume Lake just a month ago...

Whenever you catch yourself feeling frustrated that you can't accomplish everything on your list...that your day is just too short to get done all you need to...consider this - there must be something on that list that God didn't have in mind for you to do, because He's the one who chose to put only 24 hours in a day, and He doesn't make mistakes :)  Choosing the BEST over the good is my aim for today...

Meanwhile...tune in next Friday for pictures of our trip to Disneyland!  John's band is playing there and we're surprising the kids...Shhhh...they don't know yet!  Until then, have a great weekend doing soemthing meaningful as a family...I know we will!

  1. No way! I didn't you know you guys went there. We almost went this year! (We bought a car for Simone instead and made plans to go next year.) Simone went to camp at Hume Lake last summer and LOVED it. She brought home a great video of her week there, so we went online to look up family camps. That's when we saw the one over New Year's and thought we should go. Is it really as kid-friendly as it seems online? Jeff and I were talking about making it a new family tradition.

W love it there, Denise..and YES! It is as family friendly as it seems! You can do as much or as little as you'd like, but there are A LOT of activities to choose from! It would be SO fun to see you guys there!!!
