I'm sitting here in my parent's house, right before the clock strikes twelve...the house is dark and quiet, my kids are sound asleep, I sit here alone, and my heart is full. It was a good day. The kind of day I arrive at the end of and thank God He let me live.
I'm thankful for Him leading us back to California where I can take the kids to Gramma and Gramps house for the day without paying for a plane ticket :)
I'm thankful for turkey sandwiches, pink tricycles and bike rides to the park.
I'm thankful for little boys wrapped up in Gramma's arms, watching Chitty Chitty Bang Bang under handmade quilts.
I'm thankful for short rain showers, cool air and green grass in the middle of "winter"
and for a little girl who loves toddling around while holding onto my hand...
The week has just begun and I'm bursting out of my seams with excitement over what is in store for Mondays this year...Every Monday I'll be posting two verses for us to memorize together. By the end of the year, we will have memorized 100 verses that Robert J. Morgan has included in his book 100 Bible Verses: everyone should know by heart. Are there probably 100 other verses that we could learn as well? Yes...maybe that will be our quest next year (I love to plan ahead!) but let's focus on the year at hand! If you'd like to get the book to read along throughout the year, I'd recommend it. In it, Morgan expounds on each verse and it's significance in the midst of the biblical picture as well as the benefit the words we're learning can have on our mind and heart. As you remember from THIS post, it is essential to me this year, to make scripture memory a priority. My mind needs to be clothed in the truth of God's Word because of the way it helps me understand the very nature of the One I worship in a deeper way. When my mind is filled with thoughts of HIS thoughts, the life-giving mind of Christ fills me to overflowing before other more meaningless, unproductive thoughts can compete for their place...
So if you need a Mind Makeover this year...you've come to the right place! The Word of God. It's living and active, sharper than a double-edged sword and useful for building us UP for the things God intends for us this year. There isn't a person in the world who isn't in need of scripture. So...enough of my words...time for the Word of God!
Verses for Jan 16th...
Genesis 1:1
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Both these verses take us to the beginning...to our roots. Believing they are true, greatly affect the way we live life and read the scriptures. God began it all...our lives and this earth were His idea and His design. He did not, and cannot make mistakes. We started in HIM and continue to live by His leading and inspiration! The Word is our God. Committing scripture to memory actually plugs our mind into the voice we're designed to be the most familiar with.
Believe it,
Think it,
Say it,
Write it,
Memorize it
Live it.
Why?
For who has known the mind of the Lord that He will instruct him? We have the mind of Christ.
1 Corinthians 2:16
Because the Holy Spirit speaks and reveals to us who have trusted Jesus as our Savior...we actually have been given the mind of Christ...what will you do with that GIFT this year? Will you join us in being Mindful of His Word each Monday, committing His words to scripture so we can learn to have the mind of Christ throughout our days this year? I hope so...We don't know what waits around the corner tomorrow, but we can be certain that the God who made us, knows and gives us His Word to be ready for whatever it is...will you join us?

"Committing scripture to memory actually plugs our mind into the voice we're designed to be the most familiar with."
I love this. It really reinforces heart-motive for memorizing Scripture.
Great post! I'm loving your new posting schedule. Keep 'em coming!
Thanks for the kind words, Denise! I'm glad you like the new schedule, and yes...I always need the heart-motive if I expect to be disciplined in doing something consistently!
