Are you ready for the next DIY Cleaning Recipe?
Well, the laundry is piling up in my house and we just ran out of laundry detergent...so, instead of going to the store...it's time to make more!  I thought I'd share...
The first time I made my own detergent was this past summer when I was on a "make everything myself kick"...mostly to save money :)  We are working hard to pay off school loans right now and so any little bit helps!
I got this recipe from this blog, and she goes into a lot more detail than I will here.  So if you're interested in making it yourself...you may find it helpful to visit over there!
Here's what you need to make a laundry detergent that you don't have to grate any soap for...
3 Tablespoons Borax
3 Tablespoons Washing Soda
2 Tablespoons Dawn Dish soap
  1. Put all these ingredients in a one gallon jug.  I used an old laundry detergent container that I liked with a easy to use valve.
  2. Pour 4 cups boiling water into the jug. with the ingredients and swirl until ingredients are dissolved in the liquid.
  3. Let liquid cool.
  4. Fill the container with cold water so the liquid inside equals one gallon.
  5. Bubbles will overflow out of the bottle and this is okay!
So far, this detergent has worked great for our family.  It cleans well, you just have to use more of it per load than you're used to since it is thinner.  I use about 1 cup per large load...I can't think of the last time I did a load of laundry that wasn't large!  It is really inexpensive to make so I don't mind using more and using this in combination with a good spot remover does the trick every time.  Even with all the stains we have going on around here in this season of life with little ones!

The next recipe I'll post will be the DIY Spot remover we've been using!  Also a favorite of mine...
Happy Laundering!

P.S.  Since writing this post, I've changed my recipe to a sulfate and borax-free detergent to help sweet girl with sensitive skin :)
