Only a day after I made my newest batch of homemade laundry detergent, I found reports of Borax and the sulfates in the Dawn dishwashing soap being linked to causing skin irritations in those who have sensitive skin.

So...I just found THIS recipe that I'm gathering the ingredients for next!

I haven't tried it out yet, based on the comments on the blog I linked...others seem to love it!

I wanted to post it now, even before I try it out so that if anyone is concerned about the ingredients I posted before, you'd have a quick alternative.  I'll update this post as soon as we have experiences of our own to share...

Let me know if you try either one and have results to share as well!

UPDATE...1-4-13

I LOVE it!!!  I followed the recipe exactly and the only problem is that it DOES clump and get hard if you don't makedesiccant to prevent it from happening.  We love it so much though, we don't mind chiseling it out to use it every time!  Happy Washing!

  1. Hey Danice! Have you tried using unsweetened lemonade in place of the citric acid? (Just curious! I am getting the ingredients this weekend for this recipe)

I haven't tried that, Tamryn! I do love the recipe here though :) It's worked for us for a LONG time and I ordered most ingredients on Amazon...

  3. I just made the recipe you linked to again! I cut the citric acid down to 1/4C due to expense, but have found it really helps with the kids' clothes. Thanks again! I ended up finding citric acid in the canning section for a cheaper price than I could find in the stores. I tried the unsweetened lemonade, but when I was able to get the citric acid I switched back. Hope you are doing well!

Oh, and I used ivory soap instead, and microwave it and then break it up with my hands. So far, so good! Do you have a trick for grating glycerin? When I did it I was exhausted! ;)
